Maker’s note
Hopstone is a traditional jumping game on a six-by-six board where the stones alternate like a checkerboard. Two neighbours are lifted to open the game; after that you can only move by hopping a rival stone into an empty square, in a straight line, and the player who cannot hop loses. There are no draws. Pieces are turned wooden discs on a felt table under a lamp. Ranked play is the day seeded line-up of computer opponents, easiest to hardest: wins, winning margin and fewest moves score points, a quick finish earns a small time bonus, and every undo or hint costs points. The server replays the whole set, the opponents replies included, before it counts. The free game lets you pick Easy, Medium, Hard or two players on one device (two-player games are unranked).
