About / public beta
An arcade with a year dial bolted to the front.
Eracade is a web arcade of original games from every era between 1977 and 2014. Turn the dial and the whole cabinet changes with you: phosphor vectors, neon on black, 16-bit dithering, bevelled early-web grey, glossy Flash buttons, big flat one-tap colour.
Every game is an original made in-house
We borrow the feel of each era (the constraints, the rhythm, the look of the glass) and never its names, characters or art. If a game reminds you of an afternoon in 1984, that is the point. If it reminds you of one specific game, we got it wrong, and we would like to hear about it.
How it works
- The dial. Drag the knob in a circle, scroll on it, use the arrow keys, or tap an era. It clicks into place year by year and the shelf filters to that era.
- The games. Each one runs in your browser with keyboard, touch or a gamepad. Short runs, clear rules, a high-score table with your initials.
- The screen. The CRT effect can be switched off at any time, and it switches itself off if your system asks for reduced motion. Every game has a calm mode that removes flashes and screen shake.
- Your data. There are no accounts, ads or trackers. Scores and settings live in your own browser. The privacy policy has the details.
Built on one shared kit
Every cabinet runs on the same small, dependency-free Cabinet Kit: input for keyboard, touch and gamepad, a fixed-timestep loop, synthesized sound, local high scores, and the same title, pause and game-over screens. It keeps the games consistent and lets us ship new ones era by era.
This is a beta. Some games are still in the workshop, and things will change. Found a bug, or have an idea? Write to hello@eracade.com.
