How to play
- Type to fill the highlighted word.
- Arrows move, Space flips across and down, Enter jumps to the next clue, Backspace deletes, ? asks for a hint (costs points).
- Esc pauses.
On touch
- Tap a square to select it (tap again to flip across and down), then tap the on-screen keys.
- The arrows beside the clue jump between clues.
- HINT fills the square you are on.
Every run starts on the title screen. Pause any time with P or the pause button; calm mode removes flashes and screen shake.
Maker’s note
The daily puzzle comes from a hand-written bank of 50 original 5x5 crosswords, used in a fixed order that does not repeat until the whole bank has been played. Solving pays 400 plus up to 600 for speed (five minutes is par) and 200 for no hints; each hint costs 75. If the 9 minute clock runs out you get 10 points for every right letter. Typed letters are recorded as logical moves and taps as taps, so the server replays the whole run.
